Welcome to Sumatikirti Kadampa Buddhist Center in Helsinki!

We organize weekly meditation classes, meditation workshops, retreats and other events.

Buddhist meditation techniques are very practical and help solve our daily problems. This increases our inner peace, happiness and well-being.

Our teachings come from an authentic and unbroken lineage that goes back to Buddha Shakyamuni, yet they are as relevant today as they were 2500 years ago.

We teach in a way that suits everybody who is interested, regardless of background, age of belief.

Currently most of our courses are given in Finnish, however occasionally we offer courses in English. Information about these courses will be posted on this page as well as on our Facebook page.

Genuine self-esteem: Public talk and weekend course by visiting Buddhist nun Gen Kelsang Tubchen

Gen Kelsang Tubchen

Gen Kelsang Tuchen, resident teacher of the Nordic Kadampa Meditation Centre in Norway and the National Spiritual Director of the New Kadampa Tradition for the Nordic region, will be visiting Helsinki 16-18 March.

Gen Tubchen has been a Buddhist nun since 2003. She is a gifted and inspiring teacher loved for her clear, powerful and practical teachings and her deep retreat experience. She regularly visits the different Buddhist centres throughout the Nordic region to teach and guide retreats.

During her visit, Gen Tubchen will give a course on Genuine self-confidence. The course will consist of a public talk in the centre of Helsinki, as well as a course and retreat at Sumatikirti Buddhist Centre. You can attend the whole course or any part of it.

Everybody is welcome, and no previous meditation experience is required.

Public talk: Secrets of self esteem
Friday 16.3.2018, 19–20
Venue: Tieteiden talo, room 505, Kirkkokatu 6, Helsinki
Venue: Sumatikirti Kadampa Buddhist Centre, Taiteentekijäntie 8, Helsinki
NB! The Friday evening talk will also be organized at the Sumatikirti Centre

We all want to feel good about ourselves but genuine self-esteem is something that we all struggle with. Our confidence and sense of worth, so often rests on achievements, approval, status or appearance. However, since we cannot avoid criticism, always be successful or remain young forever, this leaves us vulnerable to low-self esteem.

In this introductory talk we will begin to explore how it is possible to be validated from within, from states of mind that are deeply peaceful and nourishing. In this way we begin to have an authentic confidence based on inner validation, that does not depend on external conditions. By identifying in meditation our potential for limitless good qualities and peace, we can start to develop true spiritual confidence.

Building self confidence: Workshop
Saturday 17.3.2018, 10–16
Venue: Sumatikirti Kadampa Buddhist Centre, Taiteentekijäntie 8, Helsinki

In this day course we will discover how Buddhist wisdom offers us a profoundly different way of viewing ourself and relating to the world around us. We will learn how through meditation we can connect to our extraordinary potential rather than our limitations.

Drawing on 20 years of experience with meditation, Buddhist nun Gen Kelsang Tubchen will share three kinds of authentic confidence that we can develop from within. These three kinds of confidence will help us to accomplish change, to transform difficulties, to improve our relationships and to progress on the spiritual path.

In this way we can develop a strong and authentic self-confidence that naturally empowers us in all our activities. In this way we can begin to be the confident, joyful, loving person we truly wish to be.
